The Eastern Conference has been a juggernaut of a conference this season, with three teams having the best record in the NHL: Philadelphia, New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings.
The Islanders are currently the best team in the Eastern Division with a 12-6-0 record and will play at home against the Washington Capitals on Saturday.
The Capitals are currently in third place in the East, one point behind New York and two points behind the Islanders, and are coming off of a 3-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
Both teams are tied for first place in both points scored and goals scored, with the Sabres only two points off the Capitals in the overall standings.
In addition to the two Eastern Conference playoff teams, the Atlantic Division will also feature three teams that are currently tied for second place in points: the New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Detroit Red Lions.
The Red Wings are currently third in the Atlantic, and have already clinched a playoff spot by winning the Presidents’ Trophy.
The Pacific Division will feature three playoff teams that currently have tied for third place: the Los Angeles Kings, New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks.
Los Angeles is currently fourth in the Pacific, and has already clinged a playoff berth by beating the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference Finals.
The Western Conference is still very much in the mix, with two teams currently tied with five points between the San Jose Sharks and Arizona Coyotes.
The Sharks are currently sitting atop the Pacific Division, and look to win the Pacific for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
The Eastern Conference is tied for the fourth spot in the standings, and will be playing at home in the second round against the Boston Bruins.
The Bruins are currently fourth, and also sit in first place, one game ahead of the Sharks.
The West has three teams in the West’s wild card race: the Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Giants.
The Ducks have been outscored by three goals to one so far this season and are currently holding on to the top spot in their division, but have lost three of their last four games.
The Giants are currently ninth in the division and are in seventh place.
The West will be played on Saturday, November 5 at 7:00 p.m.
ET at Staples Center.
