It was a ghost ride for the ghosts.
A man riding his motorcycle through the city of New Orleans, on Saturday night, was killed by a ghost rider.
“He was riding in the bike lane, the motorcycle was in the lane,” New Orleans Police Department Chief Michael Harrison said, adding that the rider was wearing a helmet.
“He’s going to be the first one to know that he was a victim of a ghost, and that it was a motorcycle that was involved,” Harrison said.
The man, whose name has not been released, was riding his bike in the 500 block of Orleans Street when he was struck by a white motorcycle.
Harrison said the motorcycle did not appear to be a regular motorcycle.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Harrison said at a press conference.
The motorcycle was recovered from the street.
The New Orleans Fire Department said it’s not clear what led to the accident.
“I’m not sure what caused this, but it’s unfortunate,” Harrison told reporters.
“It’s the first time we’ve had a motorcycle in New Orleans,” he said.
“We’re hoping to find the rider and find out what happened.”
He said investigators will be working to find out whether the man was the rider’s passenger.
The motorcycle is the latest example of the city’s ongoing ghost sightings.
Earlier this month, police arrested a man who claimed he was an apparition who appeared at his home.
Police also arrested two men on Saturday in connection with a motorcycle accident in the city.
The men were not immediately identified.
The New Orleans police chief says the man riding the motorcycle on Orleans Street was killed in a hit-and-run crash that happened Saturday night.
Chief Harrison said that the motorcycle had been stolen from the victim’s vehicle.
“We’re looking for the driver and we want to get that vehicle in the hands of our detectives to conduct a proper investigation,” Harrison added.
Police say there are about 100 active cases of ghost sightings in the U.S.
A report in the New York Daily News detailed the incidents.
A New Orleans man was found dead in a street in the Southside neighborhood of New York City, police said.
Police said they responded to the report of a body in the street around 2 p.m.
The man, identified as 36-year-old Michael Jackson, was found on the street, where he had been hit by a vehicle, police spokeswoman Sgt. Stephanie Haney told the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
The newspaper said Jackson had been riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he struck a pedestrian on Sunday, March 13, 2016.
Police were called to the area after receiving a report of the man, who had been wearing a mask.
He was pronounced deceased at the location, Haney said.
